The Maid of the Mist! - DO HARD SHIT!!!!

It's important as a photographer to constantly try things that challenge you! I try and fail at things all the time.... All the time.. But it's in those failures where you learn how to handle new challenges. This shoot was one of those times where I challenged myself and my past failures allowed me to succeed. This shoot was another one for fashion designer Jenny Lee Maas. The dresses Jenny made for this shot were inspired by waterfalls. So naturally we decided to do the shoot in a Waterfall.

Shot on location at Glen Onoko falls in Jim Thorpe, PA

How the images were made:

We decided that glen onoko falls in Jim Thorpe, PA  was the best location for this shoot because the waterfall was really accessible. Doing a photo shoot in a waterfall is really challenging. It’s loud, slippery, and water & electronic equipment don't mix well… You cannot just place the model, lights, and your self wherever you want. With every setup we had to really think about where the model, lighting, and myself were going to be in order to get the shots I was looking for. I wanted the images to have a moody / darker style them so I underexposed the background about 1-2 stops. I also wanted to shoot shallow between f/2.8 to f/5.6. I accomplished that by using an ND Filter. The filter I used was the Cokin P 153 -2 stop stop solid ND Filter. This allowed for a nice mix of ambient light with the flash. For lighting I used the alien bees B1600 with the Vagabond Mini battery pack. The light modifier used was the Paul C Buff large octabox.
