Jute Magazine - VOLUME XII

I had a lot fun shooting this editorial back in June with the insanely talented Jenny Lee Maas and the beautiful Katie Shea Walters. I’m happy the issue of Jute Magazine is finally out! Go check it out at: http://www.jutefashionmagazine.com/

I want to thank everyone that helped out with the shoot! Jenny Lee Maas, Katie Shea Walters, Isabel Dreher, and Julia Gerson!

The Storm within

This shoot was another collaboration between me and fashion designer Jenny lee Maas. This was an continuation of an earlier shoot we did together called Princess of the wild. We wanted the same overall style and feel to the images. I have say that with both this shoot and Princess of the wild I made some my favorite images that I’ve ever shot. With every image I shoot the environment is almost just as important to me as the subject! I love when the subject and environment flow together seamlessly and it something I thinking about before every shoot. Theses Images from these shoots are a perfect representation of a style that I am most passionate about making!

Shot on location at Valley Forge National Historical Park

How the images were made:

We used the same location as Princess of the wild, the Valley Forge National Historical Park. I also used the same lighting setup as Princess of the wild. For the images I underexposed the background about 1 stop, but I also wanted to shoot shallow between f/2.8 to f/5.6. I accomplished that by using ND Filters. The filters I used were the Cokin P 153 -2 stop, & P 154 -3 stop solid ND Filters. This allowed for a nice mix of ambient light with the flash. This is also how I got the sky’s to look the way they do. For lighting I used the alien bees B1600 with the Vagabond Mini battery pack. The light modifier used was the Paul C Buff large octabox. I had the light placed slightly above aiming down and feathered almost away from Stormy to create the shadowy look.

Stormy Jane | Beach Fashion Shoot.

Sometimes with images you have everything planned out and sometimes you just get lucky. I took a trip to Sea Isle City NJ with one of my photographer friends Amanda Lauran for a fashion shoot with the beautiful Stormy Jane. The weather that day was just awful! We got hit with a pretty epic storm. Luckily it started to clear up around sunset and allowed us to resume shooting. The storm turned out to be a blessing in disguise as the sky had these amazing purple and orange colors that matched the wardrobe we had picked for the shoot perfectly. I want to say that I planned for that to happen but I just got lucky..
